That makes no sense. It doesn't work that way.
Makes more sense that the encode settings have been set to encode at:

Codec : AAC
Bit rate : 128 kb/s
Channel(s) : 6 channels
Channel layout : C L R Ls Rs LFE
Sampling rate : 48.0 kHz

Which is what I got on the newest 1080p x265 rmteam encode of Belgravia.

The source audio was:

Codec : E-AC-3
Bit rate : 640 kb/s
Channel (s) : 6 channels
Sampling rate : 48.0 kHz

Seems more likely that the bit rate and codec encode settings were intentionally changed, perhaps to produce smaller files for users to quickly download.

I think something went wrong and the 5.1 encodes get the same bitrate as the stereo encodes.
I don't think this is intentional, for a typical film switching from 384kb/s to 128kb/s saves about 200Mbyte. Now the audio sounds like sh**, it is comparable to listening to a 48kbit/sec MP3.

I agree. The audio does sound like sh**. I just can't believe that there is some kind of *switching* involved.

As you know this site is 100% automated.

It's only a guess, but I think that each of the *types* x264 480p, x265 720p and x265 1080p run their own script. The script tells the encoder what to do. There's no *switching* or *misreading* of input codecs.

I think that maybe something broke. I think that in fixing what was broke, several new issues cropped up. The timing implies that the audio script for the 5.1 audio encodes was part of what got broke after or during the fix.

The problem will probably continue until the encode settings are corrected to give at least 384 kb/s or whatever sounds good.

Substitute the word "accidentally" for "intentional" if you want. I'd buy that explanation.

I can only use 2 channel audio anyway. I grab 480P or 720p 2 channel audio rmteam encodes for my purposes.

I'm just trying to figure out what might have happened.

@Kenny_McCormick @holsten @needforsuv you guys think there is any way we can contact RMTEAM? Because currently half of their encodes (ALL 1080p x265) are unusable. I'm sure they would like to know that since they are still putting up these releases. It's pointless for both them and the users if this error isn't fixed.

I'm 100% sure this is not intentional because the release sizes are still the same for all encodes. It's just an error in the encoding settings by the bot. For some reason it started using 5:1 audio on TV shows when previously it was just movies they used 5:1 on.

I would hate to leave this place because RMTeam in my opinion are the best group of encoders on the internet who provide the most content in a consistent manner.

1080p releases (TV or movies) where always encoded with 5.1 audio if the source material also had 5.1 audio. 720p source material with 5.1 audio got downmixed to stereo when reencoded.
